Greece vs Europe
Where Greece stands among the EU-27
Improving
A favourable change under this indicator’s stated rule, compared with the same period one year earlier.
Lower unemployment or debt/GDP is positive. Higher employment or a smaller trade deficit is also positive.
Green does not always mean the number increased.
Worsening
An unfavourable change under this indicator’s stated rule, compared with the same period one year earlier.
Higher unemployment or debt/GDP is negative. Inflation moving further from the dashboard’s 2% reference is also negative.
Red describes the observed change, not its cause or the country’s overall condition.
Unchanged / context needed
No improvement or deterioration is assigned. The value may be unchanged, its meaning ambiguous, or the comparison unavailable or delayed.
Imports can rise because of demand or investment, so they remain neutral. Missing or delayed comparisons also remain neutral.
Neutral does not mean good, bad, or zero.
What is it actually like to live in Greece compared with the rest of Europe?
Start with production. Follow the money into households, opportunities, institutions and everyday wellbeing. Each number tells one part of the story.

How these comparisons work
The default year is the latest with Greece and at least 24 EU countries. If unavailable, at least 14 countries are required. You can choose another available year. Missing countries never count as zero; tied values share a rank.
EU means the official EU-27 aggregate published by Eurostat, never a simple average calculated here. EU membership is held at today’s 27 countries throughout the historical comparison.
Percentages are compared in percentage points. Purchasing-power indices use EU = 100. Absolute counts appear only where Eurostat publishes a matching population, definition and year. A missing count is stated explicitly.
Relative progress compares the Greece–EU gap with five years earlier, when both observations exist. It is descriptive, not evidence about the effects of a policy. Breaks in series and unreliable observations prevent that assessment.
Ranks describe published point estimates, not statistically significant differences. Provisional, estimated and other source flags remain visible. Missing years are not joined by a line.
