NETWORKS / ACCESS

Network length, household access and passenger traffic describe different things. The displayed reporting years can differ. These indicators do not assess infrastructure safety or current service disruptions.

Transport networks over time

Railway electrification

All rows use the same year. Shares are calculated from the published line lengths. Electrification alone does not establish signalling coverage, operating services or safety.

Internet access: cities, towns and rural areas

Households with at least one person aged 16–74. Fixed or mobile internet at home; not fibre availability or measured connection speed.

Digital access in the same year

Airports: passenger traffic

What these infrastructure indicators explain

More network kilometres can improve reach, but maintenance, location and operating services also matter. A shorter published network can reflect closures or changes in reporting. Open a metric to inspect its history and source flags.

Internet access measures whether households connect at home. It does not establish affordability, fibre coverage, speed or reliability. Air passenger traffic describes how much the network is used.

Road safety: lives lost

Absolute numbers of people. The two specific groups are included in the total and must not be added to it.

Waste and recycling

Municipal waste from homes and similar activities. Recycling and disposal are parts of waste treatment, not extra waste to add to generation.

Greece and the EU in the same year

EU-27 is the published European aggregate, not a simple average of country values. Tonnes beneath each value refer to the same year and area. Different collection systems and reporting breaks can limit comparability.
